Courtnacuddy man killed in horror smash in Wales

A Wexford stud farmer has been killed in a horrific road accident in Wales.

The man who is in his 50s from Courtnacuddy near Enniscorthy died after he was struck by a passing vehicle as he was repairing a flat tyre on his truck at the side of the motorway. The man was on his way to deliver horses when his truck got a flat tyre.

An employee of the man who was travelling with him was unharmed in the crash which occurred shortly after 4.30am on the busy M4 road near Newport in South Wales.

Welsh Police have arrested a 45-year-old man from Merthyr Tydfil on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The crash resulted in 13-mile tailbacks from Newport to Cardiff. The motorway was closed for a prolonged period while emergency services attended the scene.

It did not fully reopen to traffic until after 3pm on Monday afternoon.
