A 100-hour community service order was handed down to Rory Stafford (49) of 6 Tower Court, Westgate, Wexford, on conviction for public order offences.
The case against Stafford was taken after gardaí had to deal with his threatening/abusive behaviour at Roche's Road on February 26.
Judge Gerard Haughton noted that, under Irish law, community service is not a punishment in its own right though he felt it should be an option open to the courts.
In this case the order was offered as an alternative to three months in jail, one which the defendant agreed to accept rather than go to prison.
