A nominal fine for possession of cannabis was imposed on a man brought from the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise to deal with the matter at the District Court in Ardcavan.
Patrick Connors of 2 Rose Cottage in Drinagh admitted having €5 worth of the drug at Wexford garda station on February 24.
The court was informed that he had 13 previous convictions for drugs possession on his record and that he was due for release in February after serving a sentence imposed in another matter.
He was on a reduced dose of methadone while in jail, Judge Gerard Haughton was informed, and he was due to undertake a 10 kilometres run soon.
The judge imposed a fine of €100 for the cannabis offence, to be paid within two months, with four days imprisonment if money is not produced.
