The Customs investigation unit was granted an extension of the time permitted to hold cash seized at Rosslare Harbour.
The sum of €42,700 belonging to Michael McDermott, whose address was given in the District Court as Grannagh Boat Club, Artic Moon, Neptune Marina in Waterford, was confiscated in January.
Customs official Keith Markey explained that his investigation into the matter was not yet complete.
He had made enquires to Interpol as well as to the authorities in both Spain and the UK.
Several explanations for where the money came from were offered - a vehicle registration tax refund, an inheritance and a loan from a sister.
However, no documentary proofs had been produced, Markey noted
Solicitor Sean Lowney insisted that the money was not the proceeds of crime and said his client was in hospital at Poole in England.
Judge Gerard Haughton extended the time allowed for the money to be retained by Customs & Excise until September 24.
