Man (24) pleads guilty to assault

A 24-YEAR-OLD Wexford man pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing harm when he came before Judge Barry Hickson at Wexford Circuit Criminal Court.

When the case was called, Senior Counsel, Caroline Biggs, said the defendant could be arraigned on two counts.

James Byrne, of 29 School Street, Wexford town, pleaded guilty to assaulting Nicole Dwyer, causing her harm, at 17 The Green, Clonard, Wexford, on January 12, 2015.

He further pleaded guilty to the possession of a weapon contrary to Section 11 of the Firearms Act 1990, that while committing or appearing to commit an offence, he did produce a hatchet for a manner to unlawfully intimidate another person and capable of inflicting a serious injury.

Defence Counsel, Ms Biggs, said there is an unfortunate set of circumstances. The matter, she said, would have to be adjourned to the next sessions for allow for a Probation and Welfare report.

Judge Hickson said he would remand the defendant on continuing bail to the next session.
