Man accused of sexual assault sent forward for trial
A man in his mid-twenties stood accused of sexual assault on a female last year, at the District Court in Ardcavan.
The defendant was represented before Judge Gerard Haughton by solicitor Ed King.
Sergeant Gary Rayner indicated that the DPP wanted the matter dealt with the Circuit Court.
However, Mr King was concerned that his client might not be fit to plead.
A psychiatric report had already been compiled and the solicitor now wanted a psychological examination of the accused.
Judge Haughton formally sent the man forward for trial on the issue of fitness to plead in the Circuit Court.
The case was certified for the services of Mr King and one barrister and for preparation of a psychological report.
