A County Wexford man in his mid-forties appeared in Wexford District Court on 33 charges alleging sexual offences dating back to a period from 2010 to 2013.

Prosecuting Garda Aisling Ferriter gave formal evidence of arrest, charge and caution and reported that the defendant made no reply as each charge was put to him. The list comprised 16 counts of sexual assault on a female, 16 counts of raping the same female and one count of attempted rape.

Garda Ferriter was granted an adjournment for preparation of a book of evidence until December 21. She offered no objection to the granting of bail once it was clear that the accused would live at a specified address, surrender his passport and sign on once a week at Wexford Garda Station.

It was also stipulated that he must have no contact with the alleged victim or her mother, by text or any other means.

Solicitor Tim Cummings was assigned to the case under free legal aid.
