Man on driving ban charged after car chase into housing estate
A man who was banned from the road for 20-year two years ago was remanded in custody last week following a car chase into a Wexford town housing estate.
Bail was refused in the case of Ger Connors from 9 Cromwellsfort House, Mulgannon, Wexford when he was brought before the District Court sitting in Ardcavan on dangerous driving charges.
Connors was arrested at Whiterock Heights in Wexford on the afternoon of August 2 after a chase and later charged with five counts of dangerous driving.
Opposing bail, Garda Barry Brennan pointed out that Connors was banned from driving for 20 years by the Circuit Court back in 2014.
The garda felt there were concerns for public safety if the accused was allowed his liberty.
The defendant, represented by barrister Jordan Fletcher, denied that he was driving on this occasion.
Mr Fletcher offered his client's €300 as a surety but this was not necessary.
Judge John Cheatle felt that the weight of garda evidence persuaded him to refuse bail, with Connors remanded in custody for a week to the court sitting of August 10 at Ardcavan.
