Choir master and music teacher Eanna McKenna (38) of 37 College Green, Summerhill, Wexford was granted free legal aid as he faces child pornography prosecution.

Accused of possession child porn at his home on June 12 last year, he appeared on Monday (December 7) at Wexford District Court. Garda Paul Doyle confirmed that he had handed a copy of the book of evidence to McKenna and the matter was sent forward to be dealt with in the Circuit Court in January

No objection was offered by gardaí to bail being extended in the matter until then. McKenna and his mother were present to sign the fresh bail bonds.

The accused was represented by solicitor Eadaoin Lawlor, who handed in a statement of her client's means as she made the application for legal aid.

In response to a question from Judge Gerard Haughton, he indicated that €150,000 was outstanding on a house estimated to be worth €170,000.

The court granted McKenna the services of Ms Lawlor and one barrister.

Ms Lawlor suggested that it would be an appropriate case for senior counsel but the judge observed that the book of evidence did not appear to be large.

He indicated that, if necessary, the application could be renewed in the Circuit Court next year.
