A skid on gravel led to a collision and, subsequently, to convictions for careless driving and driving a defective vehicle for John O'Connor (45) of Aclamon in Campile.
Garda Madeleine Holmes told the District Court how she was called to the scene of an accident in the Tracystown area on the evening of July 7, 2014.
She impounded Wright's vehicle, which turned out to have a series of problems, including a corroded chassis and an empty brake fluid reservoir.
There was laughter in court when it was learned that the vehicle had valid NCT.
Wright was described in court as a recovering alcoholic and solicitor Eadaoin Lawlor also revealed that her client's mother died recently.
His previous record included one count of dangerous driving causing death, arising from an incident 2005. Fines to a total of €600 were imposed.
