Suspended sentence for assault

A suspended nine month sentence was recorded against the name Patrick Dempsey (22) of 17 The Green, Clonard Village in Wexford for assault causing harm. The injured party in the case told gardaí she was boxed, kicked, hit with a hurl by Dempsey at The Green on July 20 last year.
She also stated that the defendant started to choke her.
In court on last week, solicitor Colette Culleton reckoned that much of the probation report on his client was positive.
However, what she described as a 'relapse' meant that Dempsey had not been able to provide a clean sample for urinalysis in September.He made a grave mistake, she reckoned, when took the drug after a friend had died.
Judge Gerard Haughton noted that the accused had no previous convictions as the suspended the prison sentence.
Dempsey was bound to the peace for two years, put on probation for 12 months and ordered to remain free of illegal drugs.
