A Ferns man who was found dead in his car died of natural causes.

The inquest into the death of 59-year-old Thomas (Leo) Maguire, Clone Lane, Ferns heard how he had called to see his nephew, Michael Maguire, on January 26, 2016.

Michael and Leo then went to the Applegreen Service Station in Ferns where Leo's car was parked and he put fuel into the car.

Leo looked very pale and complained of a pain in his chest to his nephew before driving home.

Garda Kelly Egan said that Mr Maguire's car was in the ditch near his home and he was slouched over in the driving seat wearing his seat belt.

Dr Nigram Shah said the post mortem showed Mr Maguire had a significant amount of narrowing of the coronary arteries and a blood clot in the right artery.

County coroner Dr Sean Nixon said the cause of death was acute coronary thrombosis due to severe ischemic heart disease. On his recommendation, the jury of six men return a verdict of death by natural causes.

He extended sympathy to Mr Maguire's family as did Inspector Pat Cody and the jury.
