Tractor valves at centre of farmer's claim

Two hydraulic tractor valves were brought to the Small Claims Court by a farmer Thomas Foley of Danescastle in Bannow who took proceedings against Aidan Radford of Aidan Radford Tractors, Skeeterpark, Cleariestown.
However, after the plaintiff gave his evidence and showed photographs to the court, the judge decided he did not need to examine the contents of the cardboard box carried into the courtroom at Ardcavan by Foley's son John.
The farmer explained that he had trouble with the original valve in February, so he brought it to Radford's who provided him with a replacement at short notice.
His complaint was that the new valve did not allow him to use two pieces of equipment alternately at the flick of a switch as the old one did, though the other side maintained that it should.
'The only issue is, does the valve do the same job,' summed up Judge Gerard Haughton.
The case was adjourned to allow technical advice on this issue to be obtained.
