In a deposition from Gerard's mother Ann, the court heard that her son had arrived back to the home that they shared and was in good form.

The next morning, she went to his room and called him but did not get an answer. She went into his room but did not see him as her eyesight is not great. She then waited for her daughter Anne to call over.

Following an autopsy in Waterford, Pathologist Dr Robert Landers said that there was a laceration on Gerard's neck. He said that there was also a small amount of the psychotropic aPVP in his blood, adding that this is a new drug that they know very little about.

County coroner Dr Sean Nixon recommended that the jury bring in a verdict of suicide.
