Joseph Sinnott (43), with addresses given in court as Flat 1, 2 St Patrick's Square and 32 Hilltop, Wygram, was named on an arrest warrant when he did not attend Wexford District Court.
He was due at the courthouse in Ardcavan to deal with assault and public order charges.
Solicitor Nigel Allen, appearing for the absent defendant, said he had no way of contacting Sinnott, so Garda Sergeant Gary Rayner felt the warrant was the best way of making sure he came to court.
Mr Allen stated his belief that the accused remained resident in the Wexford area.
The solicitor pointed out that his client had turned up for previous sittings.
The court also heard that a psychiatric report had yet to be compiled on Sinnott.
