Church history is extremely important for Crossabeg Parish Priest Father Jim Finn who was delighted to welcome the return of a piece of the parish past recently.

An important document dating back to the early days of the Church was presented to Fr. Finn and members of the Parish Council following a callout for historical documents in Crossabeg. The hand-painted, framed document depicts an address by Father Martin Murphy, who was the original Priest in the Parish.

'In 1919, the parish presented Fr. Murphy with the document not long after the building of the Church was complete,' explained Fr. Finn. 'Apparently he always really appreciated it. We were delighted to receive it back.'

The document was presented to members of the Parish Council by the surviving relatives of Fr. Murphy. According to Fr. Finn, the piece holds great importance for the Church and its members.

'I don't think parishes retain enough about events of the past,' he said. 'Historical records in a parish are very important.'

Also were in attendance were the decendants of the original Parish Council, whose each found their ancestors names on the historical document.
