Crowds to flock to Hook to view Tall Ships Race
PEOPLE looking for a great vantage point to see around 50 of the world's most beautiful tall ships are urged to get down to Hook Head on Sunday, July 3.
The ships will sail by Hook Lighthouse for the first time on Thursday, June 30, and up Waterford harbour to take up residence in Waterford for the weekend.
Then on Sunday morning, July 3, the tall ships will leave Waterford and sail to Hook Head, where the Tall Ships Race will begin at around 4 p.m. ' This is a wonderful opportunity to see the ships up close in all their glory,' said a spokesperson for the Hook Lighthouse Visitor Centre.
To celebrate, there will be family fun at the Lighthouse all weekend including games on the lawn, magic, puppetry, art and crafts, lovely homemade and local food and local craft stall. All events are free.
Claíomh will be conducting hourly sword-fighting duels and talks on clothing, craft and military matters.
Free parking for the event will be in nearby fields with a free shuttle bus running constantly to and from the Lighthouse. There is also a campervan field right on the bank of the estuary. Call 051-397055 for further details.
