A dog found dead in a suitcase dumped at Kilbride Woods could have been saved had it been taken to a vet in time.

Brigid Cullen from the Wexford Branch of the SPCA said the suitcase was found by a member of the public in a gateway leading into Kilbride Woods, in the Ballagh.

'She said there was a dog inside. She was not sure if it was dead or still alive, but very sick,' said Brigid.

Brigid said a WSPCA volunteer went to the wood and found a dead Jack Russell Terrier inside the suitcase with a ball beside it.

'We took the body to the vet centre to have her checked for microchip, but there was none.

'The vet said she was dead only about 24 hours and had died from a gastro infection, parvo virus. This little dog could have been saved if she had been brought to a vet in time. It is so sad,' she said.
