Defendant not in court as he's been deported

THE case of a former Wexford resident who has been deported from Ireland was given an open-ended adjournment at New Ross District Court last week.

Polish national Zbigniew Stasiak, who lived a number of different addresses in Wexford town during the past several years, was charged with driving without insurance at Adamstown on November 10, 2007.

Ed King, solicitor, informed Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla that Stasiak - who earned a large number of criminal convictions during his time in Wexford - was deported from Ireland in March and precluded from returning here for three years.

However, Inspector Mick Walsh was reluctant to apply to have the case struck out and instead asked for a general adjournment of it, on the off chance that the defendant shows up here again any time soon.

Judge O Buachalla adjourned the case generally, giving the Gardaí liberty to re-enter the matter at any stage if they see fit.
