Deposit grant anomaly queried by Cllr Wadding

AN anomaly in the Department of Social Protection whereby people seeking to rent a house cannot access grant aid for a deposit until they have moved into the house needs to be addressed, according to Cllr Deirdre Wadding.
Cllr Wadding said the once off deposit is vital as those who need to avail of the grant are not in a position to find the deposit through their own means.
Cllr Wadding said: 'There is no landlord that is going to let them do that. A simple solution could be an application form allowing payment to go directly to the landlord or letting agency.'
Cllr Wadding called on the council to write to the Minister for Social Protection for the matter to be resolved as a matter of urgency.
'You are on the side of the landlord,' Chairman Cllr Tony Dempsey said.
The motion was carried.
