WEXFORD band Divine Invention and a couple of friends have just launched a video cover version of U2's 'With or Without You' to raise funds for the town's MarineWatch.
Michael Cullen, from Irish Images, said the recordings were made on the Quays, the main focus of MarineWatch patrols, a year ago, but the band has only just received the rights from Island Records and U2.
'All money received from the sale of this song on iTunes will go completely, 100 per cent to Marine Watch, for there excellent work around Wexford. We're just waiting to upload it to iTunes,' he said, urging people to share the video to raise as much as possible for MarineWatch
Joining Divine Invention on the video cover of the song are Paul Cullen, on the bodrhan, and Paul Doyle, on the tin whistle, with members of MarineWatch including Frank Flanagan and Malcolm McGrath among those given a starring role, albeit not a singing one, with Wexford Quays an atmospheric backdrop.
The track was recorded at Damien Brady's studio. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3djly0cMX0 or direct from www.wexfordmarinewatch.com
The primary purpose of Wexford MarineWatch is to provide "Suicide Intervention' - to identify and intercept people who may be in difficulty before they harm themselves - and alert the appropriate emergency servicesy. The secondary remit is general 'water safety' and MarineWatch says its oteams have prevented numerous drunk revellers from uncertain death in the early hours, who have staggered too close to the edge of the open Quays or put themselves in danger. Not every death in the harbour is suicide - a high percentage have also been accidental.
