Drama group to mark 50th anniversary with John B Keane classic
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Wexford Drama Group and with John B. Keane's classic 'Big Maggie' set as their first planned production, they are certainly beginning 2016 with a bang.
Directed by long time drama group member and South East Radio presenter Alan Corcoran, the production will feature a few familiar faces but many more new names. Rehearsals are already under way, with the play set to hit the Wexford Arts Centre stage between April 13 and 17.
Playing the part of Maggie Polpin is Louise Dillon who has only graced the stage with the group once before. Many locals will recognise longtime member Eugene McLoughlin, who will star alongside her in the comical part of Byrne.
Emma Shannon and Aoife Beaumont Howell will make their drama group debuts as Magiie's daughters, as will Luke Butler who plays their brother Mick. Other cast members include Susan Anderson as Mrs Madden, Andrew Smith as Maurice and the well-known member Alan Fitzhenry as Teddy Heelin.
Mr Corcoran, who will be assisted by Carol Long, said he was overwhelmed by the talent at auditions and delighted to have secured such a cast. 'I am very excited about directing for Wexford Drama Group in this special year and to be doing such a fantastic play,' he said.
