Drink driver disqualified

A WEXFORD man who almost caused an accident with a patrol car while drink driving has been fined €400 and banned from driving for one year.

Philip Lyon, 34 Carrigeen Street, was in court last week, where he admitted to drunken driving at Rocklands on May 24, 2009.

Inspector Pat McDonald said that Lyon performed a dangerous uturn on the Rocklands Road and the Garda driving the official car had to stop suddenly to avoid hitting him. Following his arrest, Lyon provided a blood sample which revealed a concentration of 130 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

Lyon, who has no previous convictions, told Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla that 'it won't happen again'.

A charge of dangerous driving arising out of the same incident was taken into consideration.
