Drunken driver is banned for two years
A MULGANNON resident has been disqualified from driving for two years.
Leonard Black (36), of 6 The Fairways, pleaded guilty to drunken driving when he appeared before Wexford District Court last week.
Inspector Pat McDonald said that the Gardai received a report of a van hitting a fence in Wexford town at 4.30 a.m. on February 6 last.
They went to investigate and found a Ford Transit van going slowly up a cul-de-sac at Kennedy Park before it stopped in the middle of the road.
Black, the driver, was arrested and brought to Wexford Garda Station, where a breath sample he provided revealed a concentration of 63 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of breath.
The defendant, who apologised for his actions, sought a postponement of the driving ban to get his affairs in order.
He was convicted of drunken driving, fined €400 and disqualified for driving for two years, to take effect in eight weeks.
Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla added a day to the two-year ban in light of Black's early guilty plea, which will allow the Wexford man apply for the early restoration of his driving licence.
