A FATHER and son were brought to safety by the Courtown lifeboat after they were unable to return to shore because of strong winds buffeting their inflatable dinghy.
The RNLI said a lifeguard at Morriscastle went to the assistance of the father and son, who had been fishing, but because of the strong winds was unable to get back to shore.
Courtown lifeboat launched at 5 p.m. on Sunday and with the aid of the Rescue 117 helicopter, whose crew indicated when the dinghy was, the lifeboat's volunteer crew Rob Ireton Jnr, Fergus Slevin and Tom Dalton brought all the casualties to shore.
The sea condition at the time was described as 'choppy'.
