Fears for two people after plane crashes in mountains near Enniscorthy

A light airplane has crashed in the Blackstairs mountains near Enniscorthy.

Gardaí confirmed that the plane believed to be a Cessna light aircraft crashed in the Blackstairs commons area around lunchtime on Sunday. It is understood there are at least two people on board but the extent of their injuries are not known. However it is feared they sustained serious injuries.

The incident was reported by a hillwalker at 2.40pm.

Emergency services including Rescue 117, gardai and the local mountain rescue rushed to the scene and located the wreckage. However the area is difficult to access by foot making rescue efforts more difficult.

Early indications are there were no reports of any distress signal being sent out before the accident.
