Female driver escapes ban

A WEXFORD woman escaped without a driving ban when she appeared before Judge William Early at last Tuesday's sitting of Wicklow District Court.

Mairead Roche (39), 15 The Grange, Kilmore Quay was charged with driving without insurance and the non display of insurance disc at Coynes Cross, Ashford on September 13, 2011.

She pleaded guilty in court to the charges and acting for Roche solicitor David Tarrant said Roche was going through a marriage breakup at the time.

Her husband had looked after the insurance of the car and she didn't realise the policy had lapsed. He said Roche took out insurance the day after being stopped by gardai.

Mr. Tarrant said Roche was trying to start a small business since her separation and her licence was paramount to her.

Judge Early fined her €250 and endorsed her licence for driving without insurance but declined to ban her because of the 'special circumstances'.
