Colleagues in Bridgetown Post Office gave a great send-off to five of their postmen who marked their last day in the office recently.

Darren Murray, Paul Dove, Micheal Berry, Sean Kenny and Tommy Shannon bid farewell to their colleagues at a leaving party in Bridgetown following their final round in the area. The postmen are to be relocated to the central sorting office in Wexford. Peggy Bates, postmistress at Bridgetown Post Office described the occasion as 'the end of an era'.

'We are all very disappointed to see the five men go from this office,' she said. 'The place will seem quite empty now and they'll certainly be sorely missed by everyone.'

All of the post office staff joined together for the occasion, with two former postmen also showing up to share their good wishes. According to Peggy, the event was enjoyed by all, particularly those who received a special surprise.

'The postmen presented all of the ladies with bunches of flowers,' she said. 'We didn't expect it at all. It was lovely.'

The post office remains open as normal.
