Students at Our Lady of Fatima National School ended the school year on a high with the celebration of a number of first-time achievements.

Nine senior students from the school were presented with the Gaisce award in recognition of their participation in the personal development programme. This is the first time that the school have taken part in the project and according to Sarah Howling, the school's project coordinator, they will continue to do so in future.

'They have worked really hard this year to get their Gaisce,' she said. 'They even helped younger students with computers as part of the community service aspect of the project.'

The Gaisce ceremony coincided with the presentation of the school's first Green Flag, which was raised by Cllr. George Lawlor.

The final week of term was topped off with the traditional student awards ceremony and the presentation of €1500 raised from the school's annual car boot sale.
