The weather may have been a disappointment but the first Maudlintown Rowing Club fun day was certainly not a let-down for the large crowds who showed up on the day.

The event, which took place at the Sailing Cot, was set up to raise some much-needed funding for the club. According to Club Secretary, Jackie McGrath, all members were delighted with the outcome of the event.

'Everyone was extremely generous and I reckon we raised a good amount of money,' she said. 'We don't receive any funding so, once it is counted, it will go towards the upkeep of boats and insurance costs.'

The fundraiser was a highly musical affair, with bands such as Fit For Kings and the South End Sea Shanty Singers giving up their time to lend a hand to the cause. There was also a barbeque, face painting and games on site throughout the day.

Owing to the success of this year's event, Jackie hopes to run it again next year.

'If we can get continued support, perhaps we can even make it an annual thing,' she added.
