Found with ecstasy

A YOUNG Wexford man's hopes of travelling to Australia were preserved last week when he escaped a conviction for possession of ecstasy.

Liam Driscoll, 9 Park View, Stoneybatter, Wexford, admitted to possessing the five tablets, found on him when he was searched at Wexford Garda Station on July 4, 2009. He was brought to the Garda station after being arrested at Woodfield in relation to public order offences. Driscoll told Gardaí the drugs weren't his and another male subsequently made a statement saying they were his, not the defendant's.

The court heard Driscoll was at a party that night and doesn't know how the drugs ended up in his possession. He hopes to avail of the opportunity to travel to Australia to seek work. Judge O Buachalla gave him the benefit of the probation act on his undertaking to make a donation of €200 to the Garda Benevolent Fund.
