Free fruit and veg for local schoolkids
HUNDREDS of children in Wexford primary schools are chowing down on fruit and vegetables provided by the Department of Agriculture and Food.
School-goers in Kilmore N.S; St. Iberius; the CBS; Our Lady of Fatima School; St. John of God, The Faythe; Rosslare N.S.; the Mercy School in John's Road; Kennedy Park; Kilrane N.S.; Barntown N.S.; Murrintown N.S.; Piercestown N.S.; Scoil Mhuire in Our Lady's Island and St. Anne's in Rathangan are trying out different fruit and vegetables every day as part of the Food Dudes Healthy Eating Programme.
Every day for 16 days, kids are given fruit and veg while they are read a letter or watch a video of the Food Dudes: four superheroes, Charlie, Tom, Raz and Rocco, out to save the world from a gang of baddies known as the Junk Punks.
The second phase of the programme encourages children to bring their own fruit and veg to school every day in special Food Dudes containers and they receive certificates and rewards on reaching certain goals.
