VISITORS from Wexford's twin town of Coueron took part in the increasingly popular Parkrun at Johnstown Castle recently.
The Mayor, Cllr. George Lawlor, who welcomed the 21 French visitors, all members of Coueron Running Club, said it had been a very successful trip with the visitors also taking part in a collaborative meeting with members of the DMP Athletics Club.
Cllr. Lawlor said he was weighed down by his chains of office on the day and did not join the run through Johnstown. 'However, I will some day do the parkrun,' he said.
The Johnstown parkrun, Wexford is a fun, free event organised by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. The 5km course is run on a mixture of tarmac paths and packed gravel paths.
All parkrun events use age grading to help athletes compare results. Age grading takes your time and uses the world record time for your sex and age group to produce a score which allows you to compare your personal performance against other people's performances, although they may be a different age and a different sex to you - the higher the score the better the performance. The scores can also be compared across different race distances - to allow you to, for example, compare a 5km time against a marathon.
