Gardaí show fine form at Racecourse

WEXFORD Gardaí tested their thoroughbred credentials with a foot pursuit at Wexford Racecourse on Saturday.

The unusual race at Bettyville occurred after the Gardai's attention was drawn to two men carrying a large bag along the Newtown Road last Sunday.

This followed a break-in at Radharc Na Fhiaigh, Coolcotts, between 9 p.m. Saturday night and 7.30 a.m. on Sunday morning.

However, when the Gardaí approached the two men they jumped a wall into the racecourse and made a run for it, with the officers giving chase.

One of the two suspects was caught at the scene, but the other made his getaway has still not been interviewed.

The Gardaí also recovered stolen goods, including a television, a Playstation and a quantity of beer, worth a total of ¤1,400.

A man was interviewed and later charged with burglary. He was bailed to appear before Wexford District Court on April 19.
