MORE than 100 cannabis plants worth at least €100,000 and associated paraphernalia were seized in a major garda operation in the Mayglass area last Tuesday night.

Gardai said they had uncovered 'a very sophisticated growhouse' when they searched a house in the area on a warrant issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

'Over 100 plants were seized for evidential purposes,' said a garda spokesman.

He said a man, who had been living in the area for some time, was arrested later in the evening and was released after being questioned for some hours. A file is being prepared for the DPP. He was said to be an Irish national, but not a local person.

The seizure was part of Operation Thor anti-crime initiative which Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald says it aimed at indentifying, targeting and disrupting criminals and bringing them to justice.
