Gift shop expansion plans on the way at Lady's Island
Fr Jim Cogley, of Our Lady's island community centre committee, is to seek planning permission for the construction of an extension to the existing gift shop and associated site works at Eardowne's Great, Lady's Island.
While basic details of the pending application have been placed in the local media, it has not yet been given a planning number by Wexford County Council.
Fr Cogley and the committee have already been given planning permission for the construction of extensions and alterations to the existing community centre at ground level, consisting of the provision of an extended coffee shop and commmunity facilities at ground floor level and associated accommodation and internal alterations and site works.
According to that application, the development is needed to help accommodate the growing number of people visiting Our Lady's island, especially at busy pilgrimage times. Fr Cogley said permission for the gift shop development was being sought by the group responsible for the hall, but finance and pilgrimage committees are also involved 'with plans being made available to the community as soon as they were drawn up'.
