Lidl Ireland has been given the green light to replace their existing premises off Bellefield Road, Enniscorthy with a new larger two-storey Lidl concept food store.
Planning permission subject to eight conditions was granted to Lidl Ireland on April 6. The development will see the demolition of the existing store on the outskirts of Enniscorthy and the expansion of the site to include undeveloped lands to the north. A new 2,774 sq m Lidl store - which will include a ground floor level sales area with ancillary off licence, improved customer facilities, storage areas and first floor level staff accommodation and plant room - will be constructed in its place.
It will also see the relocation of the existing road entrance to the store.
The new format Lidl stores are currently being rolled out across Europe, with the most recent being unveiled in Gorey. The multi-million euro Gorey store is the largest Lidl store in Ireland and the first of its kind to be built in the country.
The purpose of the new design concept is to replace the existing design with a modern architectural design and modern materials. Several energy efficient measures will be incorporated into the design including a smart lighting system and heat recovery from the refrigeration systems.
The internal layout will include wider aisles, customer toilets and a baby changing facility.
