Gold for cash burglars are step ahead of Gardaí

BURGLARS are carrying around self-addressed stamped Cash for Gold envelopes so they can post off stolen jewellery minutes after stealing it.
Cllr Keith Doyle revealed the extent of the problem with Cash for Gold shops during a debate on Cllr James Browne's motion on the matter. Cllr Browne called on the council to urgently contact Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald to bring forward the regulation of Cash for Gold outlets. Cllr Doyle said: 'Why they can't deal with this on a speedy basis is beyond me. They have already got one up on the guards.'
Cllr Paddy Kavanagh suggested having guards man post boxes and not Garda checkpoints to stop thieves. 'The problem is legal wrangling.'
Cllr Robbie Ireton said summonses for handling stolen property must issue. The motion was passed.
