Liam Cody took to swimming like the proverbial duck to water.

The 16-year-old from Ballyrue, who is a student at Our Lady of Fatima in Wexford town, is on top of the world this week having scooped two national titles at the weekend, winning the 50m free style and 50m back stroke at an event in Derry.

He also took second in the 25m free style. Mum Mary said Liam only started swimming two years ago.

She said: 'I was working on developing his interests and when he started to swim I could see it was an area that he would pursue. I could see him going from strength to strength.

'I brought him to Aine O'Connell, who is a swimming coach, and she could see the potential in him. He has competed in lots of places including Southhampton and Reading.'

The teenager, who is currently busy preparing to sit his Junior Cert at Our Lady of Fatima School in Wexford, is a former pupil at Scoil Naomh Áine in Rathgarogue.

Liam, who is the son of Mary and Tom Cody, trains at the Whitford House Hotel and also at the Waterfront in Enniscorthy is also a member of Irish national team.
