Gorey's new Christmas lights to illuminate town
Thousands are expected to take to the streets of Gorey on Friday night to witness the official switch on of the town's brand new spectacular Christmas lights.
The new lights are the result of months of dedicated fund raising by the local business community of Gorey and surrounding area, who have worked closely with Wexford County Council to ensure that Gorey will be transformed with an incredible lighting display sure to be the envy of many towns this Christmas.
The fabulous modern Christmas lights were acquired at a total cost of €100,000. Wexford County Council provided €80,000 while local businesses contributed €20,000.
Chairman of Gorey Municipal District, Councillor Malcolm Byrne has described the Gorey Christmas Lights as 'a strategic capital investment by Wexford County Council in the town and district of Gorey, one which the Council is very proud of and one which has been strongly supported and fully endorsed by the local community. These wonderful Christmas lights have helped to make Gorey the best place in the world to shop this Christmas, with the possible exception of Santa's own workshop at the North Pole!'
The festival organisers promise a truly festive atmosphere throughout the evening, with a Christmas market, music, puppet shows, Christmas Stable, face painting and carol singing. The public will also be able to enjoy Gorey's famous festive shopping throughout the evening, with lots of late night bargains to be found across the town.
Santa will be on hand to collect the hundreds of children's letters that have been steadily piling up inside his postbox at the Market House, before officially switching on Christmas in Gorey at 7 pm sharp.
