TWO County Wexford seafood enterprises are among 19 nationwide awarded a total of €1.8 million under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) Operational Programme for the seafood sector.

Sofrimar received €375,780 with €112,734 grant approved and Atlantis Seafoods received €16,300 with €8,150 grant approved.

Minister Paul Kehoe said the funding will be beneficial in terms of incentivising seafood innovation, developing new products and supporting capital investment.

He said export markets for seafood are growing and many large markets, including China and the US, have a supply deficit. This presents an opportunity for the Irish seafood sector and the funding will assist processors in diversifying and developing their export markets, which is particularly important against the backdrop of the UK exiting the EU. This funding announcement will support vital jobs in coastal counties, including Wexford,' said Minister Kehoe.
