Although Blue Monday may be behind us for another year, mental health organisation GROW are reminding people that depression can last a lot longer than January for many.
The HSE-funded organisation, which holds free support groups in Wexford, Enniscorthy and Gorey, is appealing for those who are struggling to reach out. Ellen Ryle from GROW explained how their services can help those in need.
'We support people to make small changes in their lives. For example if someone has isolated themselves due to depression or has lost interest in things that once interested them, GROW will help them take little steps to get back involved in things that once gave them joy,' she said.
Part of GROW's program involves encouraging people to reconnect with others. Twice a year, they meet socially for coffee or a trip to the cinema, as well as weekends away.
The organisation have recommenced their free weekly support meetings for 2016. These take place in Wexford Clonard Community Centre on Thursdays at 7.30 p.m., The Presentation Centre, Enniscorthy on Mondays at 7.30 p.m., Gorey Community School on Wednesdays at 7.30 p.m. and above Tesco Gorey on Thursdays at 10 a.m.
