Guidelines needed for solar farm applications

By David Looby

Guidelines are needed for local authorities when it comes to solar farms, councillors agreed at the meeting.

Cllr John Fleming brought a motion calling for guidelines to be introduced.

Cllr Fleming said: 'Applications (for solar enegy farms) are going in every second day, mostly for Cork and Wexford and An Bord Pleanala are passing 95 per cent of them. What happens is the company goes bust, and with their disposal?'

Director of Services for Economic Development Tony Larkin said he supported the motion, adding that it will take a few years at least before guidelines are introduced.

Cllr Willie Fitzharris said it is important for Wexford County Council to lead the way on solar energy planning policy.
