'He was arrogant'
FINE GAEL TD Michael D'Arcy heard the Cowen interview live on Morning Ireland and got the impression that the Taoiseach was ' the worse for wear'.
'I wasn't the slightest bit surprised at the subsequent reaction. The interview displayed an arrogance, a belief that anything is acceptable and that you can bluff your way through anything, but people won't accept bluffing anymore,' he said.
'It was very inappropriate of the Taoiseach. If any other civil servant were to turn up for work in that condition, it would be considered unacceptable. For the Taoiseach to show that kind of example is nothing short of appalling,' said Deputy D'Arcy.
He said a lot of Fianna Fáil people defended the Taoiseach's behaviour by attacking Fine Gael TD Simon Coveney but that he was as entitled as any citizen to make a Twitter comment about the interview.
However, the Gorey-based TD doesn't believe the episode has damaged the Fianna Fáil vote because the party is probably down to its core vote anyway, he said.
