History recalled as iPhone app launched for Opera Festival
HOW times have changed since Wexford Festival Opera opened in 1951 with a production of ' The Rose of Castille'. That was 60 years ago and the festival is currently celebrating the milestone anniversary with the release of an iPhone app for booking tickets and programme browsing.
If you had told audiences attending the inaugural production that such a facility would be possible in the future, they probably would've called you insane.
Yet here are the current generation of operagoers booking tickets for 2011 productions via their mobile phones through an application that can be downloaded free from iTunes, and watching a video of artistic director David Agler speaking about the forthcoming highlights.
Lest they forget the historic beginnings of the festival, however, the organisers arranged a nostalgic photo shoot in High Street to mark the 60th anniversary as well as the opening of general booking.
The event was styled by Jurgen Alexander with the costumes coming from the Opera House wardrobe. Bobby Stack of Newbawn supplied the vintage car and Scissors Empire did the hairstyles.
