A brazen gang of thieves broke into Jimmy Gahan's Daybreak last week, the second time the property was raided in five weeks.

The gang gained access to the busy shop between 9pm on Wednesday, December 9 and 7am on Thursday, December 10 by cutting a hole in the roof.

This is the second time in five weeks that Daybreak has been raided and both times the thieves cut a hole in the roof to gain access. Gardai are trying to establish if both robberies were carried out by the same gang.

Sgt Victor Isdell said it is clear that the robbery was very organised and said that the thieves would have had to bring a number of tools with them to cut through the roof and appealed for anyone who was in the Drumgoold area between 9pm on Tuesday and 7am on Wednesday who noticed any suspicious activity, however small, to contact the gardai.

'Any description of the raiders would be very helpful', he said.

A considerable amount of damage was caused to the shop during the robbery, particularly to the roof. The thieves escaped with cash and cigarettes. Gardai are still actively investigating both robberies and anyone with any information is asked to contact them on 053 9242580.
