Gardai are investigating the cause of a fire which swept through a house in Clonard Village on Sunday night.

County Wexford fire fighters received a call to the blaze at around 6.40 p.m. and found the house well ablaze when they got there. They brought the fire under control very quickly.

'There was quite a bit of damage done to the house. The fire started in the sitting room at the rear of the house,' said a fire service spokesman. He said two units of the fire brigade were deployed.

The house, which was fitted with smoke alarms, was occupied by a young couple with a child, but no one was hurt and all were safely outside by the time the fire fighters arrived.
