Cllr Malcolm Byrne said that the dismissal of a decision made by Gorey district not to house an individual in a certain area was a 'short-sighted' move made by the housing executive.

In a discussion about housing, Cllr Byrne said that Gorey district closed a decision regarding housing an individual in a certain area. However, he said that the executive is now 'ignoring the decision'.

'This is the first time that we in the district have decided not to house an individual in a particular location,' he said. 'I feel that this is a very short-sighted move and it sets a dangerous precedent.'

Cllr Byrne also queried why the house had remained vacant for a year prior to this.

Executive Housing Officer Liz Hore said that her role is to provide houses to people and said that they were satisfied to go ahead with the provision.

Cllr Robbie Ireton also spoke about the issue but was warned not to discuss individual cases.
