The number of people who were on trolleys at Wexford General Hospital during the first six months of the year has increased significantly.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show record levels of overcrowding at hospitals around the country between January and June of this year.

At Wexford General Hospital there were a total of 147 people on trolleys during the month of June alone which is a increase of over 500 per cent compared to June 2016 when there were 28 people on trolleys at the hospital.

It is also the highest figure for June since 2012.

Between January and June of this year there were 818 people on trolleys in Wexford compared to 505 for the same period last year.
