Hundreds take on 10k course

ANNE MARIE O'CONNOR

FORTY THOUSAND women may have stretched their legs in Dublin over the bank holiday weekend but several hundred Wexford women completed their own mini marathons in Oylegate.

Cottage Autism was just one of the many charities that benefitted from two Mini Marathon walks in Oylegate on Bank Holiday Monday.

Cottage Autism set off on their walk at 12 noon, while several other charity walkers kicked up their heels at 3 p.m.

For several years Oylegate has held an alternative mini marathon for women.

'It takes the hassle out of travelling to Dublin for the event,' said organiser Paula O'Connor, who raised funds on behalf of Cottage Autism.

' We've been doing the event in Oylegate for three or four years and it's always well supported,' she said.

She added that it was a ' brilliant' day in glorious weather.

' We'd like to thank all of the women who walked. They were brilliant. It's hard to ask people for sponsorhip money, especially in this climate,' she said.
